Australia and England currently hold the top two positions in the WTC table, each boasting a perfect 100% points percentage after securing victories in their opening matches. Sri Lanka currently sits third after winning one match and drawing another in their two-match series against Bangladesh. Bangladesh is fourth, with one draw and one loss.

However, teams like South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan are yet to begin their WTC campaigns.

India's first match did not go as planned, even after a notable effort at Headingley. Despite having five centurions, they suffered a defeat as England successfully chased their target, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

England achieved the 371-run target thanks to a strong opening partnership between Ben Duckett (149) and Zak Crawley, followed by an unbeaten partnership from Joe Root and debutant Jamie Smith. India's middle-order collapse and missed opportunities proved costly.

Following the match, Shubman Gill acknowledged that India had opportunities but could not capitalize on them, and the lack of runs from the lower order hurt their plans.

India is now preparing for the second Test at Edgbaston, aiming for a strong comeback to revive their WTC campaign. Currently, they are positioned near the bottom of the table, alongside West Indies.

The WTC cycle started on June 17 with Sri Lanka's tour of Bangladesh and will continue until the final in 2027.
