Once hailed as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has openly discussed the challenges that have impacted his once-promising career.
In a recent interview, the 25-year-old cricketer admitted that poor decisions, distractions, and altered priorities contributed to his decline both on and off the field.
"There are a lot of things... I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice a lot... I admit that there was a distraction," Shaw confessed to News24.
He elaborated on how his focus shifted: "After that, I started considering what was not necessary as necessary. I made some wrong friends... Then they took me here and there. All those things. Then I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."
Shaw's career began on a high note with a century against the West Indies in his Test debut in 2018, leading to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, disciplinary issues and fitness concerns led to his eventual downfall. This included being dropped by Mumbai due to fitness issues and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.
Now, Shaw aims to revitalize his career. He has officially left the Mumbai Cricket Association and will be joining Maharashtra as a professional player. In his letter to the MCA, he expressed his appreciation for their support, emphasizing that this change is essential for his personal development.
While there have been glimpses of his former self, such as his stint in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, consistency has been an issue.
With a new team, a renewed mindset, and acknowledging his past mistakes, Prithvi Shaw hopes to start afresh. Whether this marks a genuine comeback or a gradual decline remains to be seen.
