Gavaskar emphasized the conditions at Edgbaston, Birmingham, noting they are likely to favor wrist spin. "Whether Jasprit Bumrah is fit or not, I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come into the team. I do believe that he should come into the team for Shardul Thakur because the Birmingham pitch will be one where there will be just a little bit of help for the wrist spinner,” Gavaskar stated.

Thakur's performance in the previous Test was underwhelming, having taken only 2 wickets. Gavaskar believes that Kuldeep Yadav's variation could provide a crucial edge for India in the second Test.

Gavaskar's Concerns Regarding Middle-Order Performance

Gavaskar also addressed concerns about the performance of the middle order, especially debutant Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair, both of whom were dismissed for ducks. While Gavaskar is hesitant to immediately drop them, he suggested that a reshuffle might be considered if India falls 0-2 behind in the series.

Gavaskar suggested considering Washington Sundar to bolster the batting lineup and add bowling variety.

With the series on the line, India aims to level the score against England at Edgbaston.
