Wimbledon 2025: Bhambri and Galloway Suffer Tiebreak Defeat in Round 3
London: Despite a valiant effort, the Indo-American duo of Yuki Bhambri and Robert Galloway were defeated in the third round of the Wimbledon men's doubles. Galloway, who was already nursing a fractured finger, teamed up with Bhambri but they lost to the fourth-seeded Spanish-Argentinian pair of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. The match concluded with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4-10) after two hours and 12 minutes of play on Monday.
Bhambri and Galloway demonstrated resilience by recovering from a 2-5 deficit in the final set. However, Granollers and Zeballos proved too strong in the match tie-break, establishing a commanding 7-0 lead. While the Indo-American pair struggled in the opening set, they managed to break their opponents' serve in the sixth game of the second set, taking a 4-2 lead.
Galloway's serve was broken in the fourth game of the third set, putting the 16th seeds at a disadvantage with a 1-3 and then 2-5 score. Undeterred, Bhambri and Galloway fought back, winning the subsequent three games to level the score.
With Bhambri's exit, the Indian interest at Wimbledon 2025 has come to an end. Looking ahead, the 33-year-old Indian player will be partnering with Kiwi player Michael Venus. Bhambri acknowledged that the decision to team up with Galloway in mid-April was always a long-term plan.
Their partnership began in Munich in mid-April, and they have competed in 10 tournaments together. After early exits in their first three tournaments, they participated in a Challenger event and reached the final of the ATP 250 Series event in Mallorca prior to Wimbledon.
"Mike was available, and he is one of my closest friends on Tour," Bhambri stated. "At some point, we were always going to play together, and this was an opportunity that we finally had. It just made sense."
Bhambri and Venus have known each other since Bhambri's teenage years. "When he (Venus) started playing doubles, I was sort of the initial partner," Bhambri said. "We obviously had our first Grand Slam together, which has still been our best result to date in Australia, making the third round."
